Reeves son of Patricia Bond (née Taylor) a costume designer/performer from Essex, England and Samuel Nowlin Reeves, Jr. Reeves attended four high schools, including the Etobicoke School of the Arts, from which he was expelled. Reeves expelled because "I was just a little too rambunctious and shot my mouth off once too often. Keanu Reeves also attended De La Salle College "Oaklands" and become ice hockey goalie and earned the nickname "The Wall". After leaving De La Salle College, he attended Avondale Secondary Alternative School.
